I read something recently during one of the many frenzied rabbit holes I regularly burrow down in search of distractions disguised as productivity hacks, ways to optimize and maximize the time I am so clearly wasting reading blogs and videos with titles like “How to Not Waste Time Reading Blogs and Watching Videos.” Somewhere during one such spiral, I stumbled upon a journaling technique called the Story of the Day.
Yes, I too was appalled at the stupidity of the country but then I realized I made a decision 3 years ago to leave and move to Mexico where I am safe, happy, and making doggie portraits on Paseo Montejo every Sunday with a collection of artists and people on bicycles. Life is good.
Kaytee, my husband and I spent 10 days in Yucatán from November 1 to 10. We were avoiding being at home in Chicago during the election. We spent 5 nights in El Cuyo, 2 nights in Izamal and 3 nights in Mérida. I've traveled all over Mexico and I'm leaning towards Mérida as my favorite city. We're moving to Mexico City in the spring. It's better for us while we're still working but one day I'd love to spend winters in Mérida (not sure I could handle summer--I got mild heatstroke while traipsing around the city on Saturday, November 9.)
There are no words but then I think, there are so many words to describe the heartache and disappointment felt! Thank you for being a light, a beacon of hope that not everyone in the US is a supporter of the complete and utter nonsense!
Fred, on a recent roadtrip through Yucatán I learned the Motul is a pueblo mágico. We only made it to Izamal this time around but we'll have to get to Motul next time. Have you been in Motul all 17 years?
Majority of the time. We first thought Belize was going to be it, but it turned out to be too dangerous. Stayed in Puerto Escondido for a year looking, but found nothing we wanted, so returned to Motul in 2009 for good. Let me know when you are around again. Come have Huevos Motulenos with us!

I always look forward to your first brain's grand magnificent words.
Hoping to scrape enough $ to leave for Mexico soon to escape the ogre.
Amor sempre.

I look forward to your “silly little stories” every Saturday morning.
Really good idea! Thanks! Still happy 17 years now in Mexico away from that madness
Did you see the Día de Los Muertos display from here? It is on Instagram

The number of times I've eaten huevos motuleños without knowing there's a town called Motul! I'll message you when I do get there! :-)
