I’m launching a newsletter called Unsubscribe, because I thought having to say “Subscribe to Unsubscribe!” was funny, and also because it gave off an angsty, moody, My So-Called Newsletter sort of vibe, which is how I felt after spending a solid day trying to brainstorm a good name.
Runners up included Type Out Loud (which David dismissed because it sounded too much like a gay newsletter), Candles and Coffee (which I am reserving for the adorable Bed and Breakfast we will eventually start) and Noted (which was already taken by a guy who sends out links to things he’s…wait for it…noted).
What is Unsubscribe?
Unsubscribe is a weekly story or essay or collection of run-on sentences delivered right to your inbox every Saturday morning. If you’ve enjoyed the things I’ve written on Medium (or earlier dispatches from China and Korea), then you’ll enjoy Unsubscribe. And if you don’t? You can always unsubscribe. God, that will never get old.
Why Substack?
I’m moving to Substack because it gives readers an option to support my work with subscription levels. Don’t worry - if you just want to read for free, you can. But if you can support on a monthly or yearly basis, you’ll get access to comments, community discussions, archived posts and the smug satisfaction of knowing you’re supporting an artist you love.
